Not less than 3 persons have been reported dead, in a ghastly motor accident along the Benin-Ore expressway.
The accident which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, March 27, 2018, involving a God is Good motors coastal bus with registration number AYJ836XK and a Mercedes Benz (Mack) with registration number SKB 844AA is said to have happened when the driver of the GIG motors attempted to overtake two trucks driving in the same direction.
According to the Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, the driver of the commercial bus however lost control, colliding with the truck on the left, swerved and collided with the second truck.
The Sector Commander, Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Mr. Clement Oladele, attributed the accident to negligence on the part of the commercial bus driver, the driver of the GIG motors was overtaking the trucks on the wrong side, he went further to explain that excessive speeding was also a contributing factor to the tragedy.
He added that out of the 19 persons involved in the accident, three were confirmed dead at the scene and their remains have been deposited in the mortuary. While others who sustained several degree of injuries were transported to the Ro’ona Hospital, Ijebu-Ode, where they are said to be responding to treatment.
The commercial vehicle and trucks involved in the accident has been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, Odogbolu Division, for forensic examination.
Some eyewitness who commented on the incident explained that the GIG motors driver was on a high speed, and was not concentrating when the accident happened. The passengers who lost their lives were seated at the right, window side of the bus, where the impact of the collision was intense.
Passengers of the commercial bus blamed the accident on the driver, ironically, the driver is said to have been left without a scratch.
