Rev. Father Arrested For Stealing And Drugging 18-Month-Old Baby

Security operatives of the Osun State police command, led by the Commissioner of Police,  Fimihan Adeoye, on Thursday paraded before news men a Catholic Rev. Father along other suspects for conniving to steal a toddler in Osogbo.

The baby identified as Abdullahi Azeez was abducted from his mother's shop by an apprentice, Joy Esu, who signed an agreement with the child's mother to learn tailoring, two days prior to the abduction.

Ms Esu who confessed to officers of the Osun State command, said she was working alongside her boyfriend, Sidney Onwuka, Maxwell Agu  and Rev. Father Chike of Our Lady of Fatima, Woliwo, Onitsha, Anambra State.

Narrating how she stole the baby, 28-year-old Esu said, she waited for the child's mother to leave for the market, keeping young Azeez under her watch.

She immediately fled with the baby, delivering the toddler to her boyfriend, who drugged Azzez to prevent him from crying, thereafter sold him to Maxwell Agu.

Esu went further to reveal that she had stolen and passed across to her boyfriend a total of 6 babies, which are sent to Agu, who claims to run a government registered orphanage at Orlu, Imo State.

Of all the babies been sold by Esu and Onwuka, Esu told interrogators that her boyfriend has never given her a dime for the role she plays, she believed he had cast a spell on her, as she does anything he instructs her to do, without questioning.

Her boyfriend corroborated her story, admitting to have received  6 babies from Esu, selling them as well his biological child to Agu, for the sum of N 200,000.

Rev. Father Ezike became part of the scheme, when he was approached by a parishioner who had 6 daughters and was desperately in need of a son. Elizabeth, fearing the consequences the Igbo culture has on a marriage without a male child, considered adoption.

Father Ezike thereafter collected the sum of N750,000 from Elizabeth to help her get a male child, he then contacted Agu, who brought little Azeez to his parish, where Elizabeth picked him up.
