The Chief Press Secretary to the palace of the Benin Monarch, Desmond Agbama, yesterday, issued a statement, that the Oba of Benin Kingdom made an announcement to place Libya returnees on a monthly stipend.

The declaration was made when returnees were hosted at the palace of the monarch on Thursday, March 29, 2018.
Each returnee will receive N20,000 Twenty Thousand Naira, monthly, which will run concurrently for 3 months.

He went further to say, the Oba Ewuare Foundation, will train returnees in different vocations and empower the youths with necessary tools to kick start their career in their various  skills.

Oba Ewuare, however revealed his displeasure over the perception of Nigerian youths; their adventure to get rich fast without a justifiable source of generating income.
Youths were further advised to  adopt meaningful opportunities such as agriculture, and other lawful businesses in order to be exceptionally progressive in life.

The statement reads further, the Monarch was displeased at the position of some parents, who encouraged their children to embark on the perilous journey to Europe through the Libyan desert and  Mediterranean sea.

It added that the palace will engage traditional resources to put an end to the menace of the practise.

The Benin Monarch expressed warm approval of the ancestors, and the accomplishment hitherto, the hazards of human trafficking and the crime rate in Edo State. He requested the collective efforts of well meaning individuals to defeat the scourge of human trafficking.

Oba Ewuare promised to help in the rehabilitation of victims of human trafficking in Edo State.

Prior to the announcement, the leader and spokesperson of the returnees, Mr Vincent David, besieged the palace with other returnees to  plead for assistance that would enable them start a new life and acquire skills from the state.

They further showered encomium at the Oba for the steps taken to eradicate human trafficking in the state, lauding the involvement of  traditional means to abolish the inhumane act.

Well done to the Oba of Benin! It is however not allowed for the citizenry to ask for accountability.
The Europa.eu website had published a cooperation between the European union and Nigeria to curb illegal migration.

Members of the European union had supported Nigeria with Millions of Euros with a large sum been disbursed to Edo State, the home base of illegal migration.
It is alleged that the Oba of Benin had embezzled large sums of money through his foundation
''The Oba Ewuare Foundation'' which gives no accountability to how funds are received and disbursed.

Giving 20, 000 Nigerian Naira to a bunch of Libya returnees for 3 months, of the billions of Naira received is tantamount to corruption.
The foundation should do the right thing; engage the youths with gainful employment, provide affordable education and sensitize the masses.
