Nigerian Student From Edo State, Die Of Drug Overdose In Cyprus



A 26-year-old Nigerian student,  Osaruese Elijah Uwoghiren,  was found dead in his apartment, Tuesday, March 27, 2018.


His body was discovered by the Northern Cyprus police at about 11:00pm on the said day and subsequently transferred to the Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Lefkosa, N.Cyprus, for examination, after which tissue samples will be sent to Turkey for analysis.

According to a post published by Olomo info; a Northern Cyprus blog, the information they gathered within the Nigerian student community in N.Cyprus, reveals the victim died as a result of drug overdose.

Earlier in the year, the deceased was said to have been arrested on drug related offences, but later released upon the intervention of a Cyprus based attorney.

Until his untimely death, Mr Uwoghiren was a student in the department of Banking and Finance, Girne American University, Northern Cyprus.

This  brings the death toll of Nigerian students in Northern Cyprus to 3, since the beginning of 2018.
It should be recalled that a Nigerian student, Kennedy Dede was in January, abducted and murdered by a group of 7, the assailants are currently in police custody and facing trial.

A month ago, another Nigerian, Hassan Babatunde had reportedly drown while taking a dip at the beach, he was confirmed dead at the scene.

In other news:

A  student in northern Cyprus was last week arrested for shoplifting at a grocery store, the 19-year-old suspect simply identified as JKL, during his arrest was in possession of the stolen items; food stuffs, make-up removal.

Two international students, said to be from Zimbabwe has been sentenced to 3 months in Jail, pending final judgement, for burglary.
The students are said to have broken into several shops in the Girne area of Northern Cyprus, where they carted away with several electronics worth thousands of Turkish Liras, the stolen items were later recovered from the residence of the suspects upon their arrest.

A 21-year-old African student, Priscilla Kalamb, was last week knocked down by a vehicle, while attempting to cross a pedestrian traffic light,  the victim was thereafter transported to the Lefkosa government hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries.
