For Failing To Pay Rent, Landlady Pours Hot Porridge On Tenant's Baby

A toddler has been left with severe burns following an attack on her family over unpaid rent.
The incident which occurred in Serenje district, Zambia, was later  reported to security operatives, who subsequently arrested the culprit.

According to a Zambia based reporter, Zambezi,  the father of the toddler, George Simwinga has a 2-month backlog of rent; February and March, which he was unable to pay.

The Landlady identified as Bana Paul and is said to be a teacher at the Kamwala Primary School, yesterday March 19, 2018 approached the Simwinga's for her rent, and was given K50 ($5),  (Which is rent for 2 months, it is reported that the family pays K25 per month.)  after getting physical with the family.

Upon receiving the rent, it is said that the landlady began throwing the belongings of the victim's parents out of the apartment, yelling; she was not interested in continuously getting into a fight with them just to retrieve her monthly rent.

It is said that Mrs Simwinga tried to stop the landlady, while her husband was packing their furniture back into the apartment.
The outraged Bana is said to have dashed into her kitchen where she was cooking, picked up the pot of porridge which was cooking on the stove and tossed it at Mr Simwinga, who was at that time holding his 1-year-old on his arm.

The content of the pot splashed over the the toddler's face, who began to scream. When the landlady realised what she had done, she left the scene and went home.

The child was later taken to the hospital, after which the parents lodged a police complaint.
