The 2018 International Women's Day which is supposed to be a day for women to be celebrated, loved and appreciated turned to be a nightmare for 25-year-old Farah from India.
Her husband poured acid on her for ''daring'' to give birth to a baby girl, when he wanted a male child.
Siraj,32, accused his wife of not paying him dowry; as it is customary in the Indian culture and not being able to bear him a son.
Siraj also referred to as Bhura, on Monday, March 5, 2018, attacked his wife in the home they share at Moradabad town, close to New Delhi.
He fled shortly after the attack, the New Delhi police has issued an arrest warrant on Siraj for voluntarily causing grievous bodily harm on Farah.
The victim was taken to the district hospital, sustaining first degree burns to her face, hands and abdomen.
According to the victim's sister, Nusrat Jahan, Farah got married to Siraj in 2010, trouble however started between the couple in 2017, when Siraj demanded he be paid dowry.
The contract labourer thereafter subjected Farah to various forms of domestic abuse, the last straw that broke the camels back was when her sister delivered a baby girl.
Speaking to reporters, Farah mentioned that she already had a daughter for her husband, and the new girl was her second child for Siraj. She had fallen out of favour with her in-laws, following the birth of her first daughter. They blamed her for deliberately having a female child.
Farah claimed she was severely maltreated by her husband's family, and it progressed over time. They constantly mounted pressure on her husband to send her to get money for them from her family.Whenever she refused, Siraj will beat her up.
'I was trying to live with the daily dose of torture thinking about the wellbeing of my daughters. I was wondering if I part ways from Siraj who would provide for my two daughters and myself.
'But I could never imagine that he would go to the extent of pouring acid on me. I won't forgive him for this ever,' she said.
