Why You Must Not Take A Shower Everyday

Illustration

Really? That is what some people would exclaim when they first see this heading about taking a shower. Well, you read it right! You do not have to take a bath everyday if you want that skin of yours to glow and stay succulent in a long while.

While most of us believes that it is mandatory to shower twice a day, or at least once, the overall health implication of skipping bath time cannot be over emphasised.

Taking your bath everyday not only get rid of some good bacteria in the skin, but also leaves the skin dry. Washing your skin every day removes the good, useful bacteria that keep your skin healthy. This bacteria acts like a shield against harmful bacteria. It also helps keep out toxins from  soaps, shampoos, perfumes, and other personal care products.

Some would argue, every time i take my bath i moisturize with very expensive lotion that keeps my skin moist all day.According to a research  made by dermatologist Dr. Ranella Hirsch and published  in an article for Essence, if you shower every day, it might not be good for you. Showers disrupt natural processes that occur on your skin and in your hair and nails.

It is bad for your hair.

If you are one of those who wash his/her hair every time you take a shower, you need to have a rethink. Hair should be washed not more than twice a week.  According to Andrea L. Hayden, Director of the International Association of Trichologists, hair contains natural oils which often wear-off due to constant washing. However, you can condition your hair with any leave-in conditioner of your choice on the days when you don't wash.

If you must shower, try to avoid using too hot water.

This may be very difficult for people who live in country where temperature could drop between 10 to even negatives. In as much as we cannot totally get rid of the habit of taking a bath with hot water, we should try to cut shower time to less than 10 minutes and avoid super hot scalding water. Taking a shower with Luke warm water in a heated bathroom is advisable.-Keep the heater on in the bathroom but keep your bath water mildly hot.

Have you ever noticed those brownish to blackish flake on your nails?

Having showers too often and with hot water not only damaged the tissue underneath your nails but also cause your nails to expand. According to Bliss Kiss, as your nails absorb water from the shower, they usually lose moisture and oils, which often results to chipping, peeling and breaking.

And to think of it, you are actually not dirty.

Except you work in a chemical factory, gym or probably as a automobile mechanic or any outdoor job where you end up visibly having all different patches of dirt on you, it may not be necessary to take a bath.
According to Dr. Casey Carlos, assistant professor of medicine in the division of dermatology at the University of California San Diego School of Medicine, your skin actually has effective ways of cleaning itself.

US Designer,Dame Vivienne Westwood says the secret of her staying young is that she takes her bath only once in a week. The 76-year-old fashion advised people not to wash too much.

And try not to mistake bath for showers- they are slightly different things.

While a shower is just you standing and pouring water from your head to and letting it drain to your feet, taking a bath is when you fill that bath tub with water and you soak yourself in it to get clean.

According to a study, taking a hot bath will lower your blood sugar levels by 10%.Warm baths - 90-95F or 32-35C - open the pores and encourage sweating, which helps to release toxins.
And if you are the type that use facial moisturisers, having a warm bath will make your cream very effective, as your pores and open and the components in the cream will easily be absorbed.

Adding baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) to your bath acts as a mild antiseptic, it gets rid of Eczema, itching and other less severe skin conditions.

We all know that after a long day at work, feeling all tired and clumsy, a warm bath will help you relax. Again avoid using over heated water!
A nice cold bath will help you have a good sleep, but keep in mind, having a shower/bath is okay, but not when done everyday.

During this research i found a lot of articles on line about this subject, listing reasons why you should and should not have a bath every day.In my opinion, the country where you reside will play a great role on whether having showers daily will/will not be beneficial for you.

A lady during her circle should take a shower daily, irrespective of her location to avoid the build up of bacteria that can lead to infection.
