An HIV positive woman has vented her frustration on her orphaned grandchildren, claiming they gave her the terminal disease, AIDS.
Speaking to Vanguardngr, three sisters between the ages of 3 and 13, who have endured severe maltreatment from a woman who is supposed to be their protector, explained how they have been tagged witches. Our grandmother brought some other persons to our home, beat us with machete and forced us to say we are witches, when we are not, they said.
The siblings from Cross River State told reporters they had lost their father in 2014 and dropped out of school in 2016 when they lost their mother.
Their grandmother soon sent them on the streets to hawk sachet water, they were only allowed food once a day after sales.
The siblings also made mention of one Uncle Aniekan, who was a friend of their grand mom and would usually be invited to join her to beat them with red-hot machete. Both will torture them till they confess to be responsible for the woman's disease.
Leading a team of prosecutors, Principal Counsel to Child Protection Network and Basic Rights Counsel Initiative, BRCI, Barr. James Ibor, stated that the abuser was previously arrested but granted bail due to the status of her health, she is very fragile and almost like a walking corpse, he said.
The grand mom who has been placed on Anti-retro viral medication since her diagnosis is said to have vehemently refused to take her medication, instead, she blames her grand children of sucking her blood, causing her to emaciate.
The Spokesperson of the Cross River State Police Command, ASP Irene Ugbo, confirming the incident stated that the Police is still conducting investigation regarding the matter and all erring parties will be brought to book.
