A Student at the Government Day Secondary School Sankalawa in Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara State, is allegedly dead from intense flogging by a teacher in the said school.
Members of the house were made aware of the unfortunate incident, by Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Alhaji Muhammad Abubakar-Gummi.

Speaking on the issue brought before the house, Alhaji Abubakar-Gummi stated that they have been presented with numerous reports in respect of the matter. And it has become imperative that the house look into the recurrent event.

He further stated, there was a similar incident at the Government Female Day Secondary School, Kwatarkwashi, that led to a female student critically injured, after being made to undergo intense punishment by the school's Vice principal.
The law maker emphasised how these problem (teachers inflicting injuries on their students) would have a negative impact on children who choose to acquire education, and the poor orientation of teachers towards their work.

Furthermore, He persuaded the House to invite the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology to explain what actions has been taken to curb the menace.
Commenting on the incident, the Speaker, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji described the actions of the teachers as unfortunate, vowed that the assembly would not allow the matter be swept under the carpet.
“It is part of our responsibilities to ensure effective security and good learning atmosphere for our children for their future development, therefore, we cannot allow teachers to continue harassing our children from schools,” he said.
The Speaker thereafter instructed the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology to summon the commissioner to appear before it on the matter.
