Osa Alohaneke, 59, Nigerian, has been convicted by a Fort Bend County jury for stabbing his ex girlfriend to death.
Alohaneke committed the crime on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Stabbing to death 52-year-old Evelyne Evans Epiepang in her Fort Bend County, Texas home.
Fort Bend County’s Chief Family Violence Prosecutor, Amanda Bolin, explained to the court that the victim called the Fort Bend County Sheriff’ s Office on April 8, at about 5 p. m. to report that her ex-boyfriend, Osa Alohaneke, has continuously made threats towards her life, wanting help in getting him out of her house.
Alohaneke was sent out of the home and sheriff’s deputies took a report from Evelyne before she left to spend time with her friend, Veronica Taku.
Few hours later, Evelyne found out that Alohaneke had returned to her home and was banging on the front door.
The deceased again called the sheriff’s office for help. Before deputies arrived, Evelyne and Veronica were back at Evelyne’s home because they thought the defendant had left.
As Evelyne and Taku entered the front door of the home, Alohaneke got in behind them, locking the door with both ladies trapped inside.
An argument ensued and the defendant pulled a knife from under his shirt, first attacking Taku, stabbing her face and arms.
After which he attacked Evelyne, the deceased manged to dial 911 with over 30 stabbed wounds inflicted on her by Alohaneke.
After killing Evelyne, Alohaneke told Taku to go ahead and call the sheriff because he had “completed his mission”.
By the time deputies arrived, the defendant was on a call with his attorney at the crime scene, with blood stained hands.
Alohaneke was tried before Presiding Judge, Maggie Jaramillo of the 400th District Court. Murder is a first – degree felony punishable by 5- 99 years, or life in prison and up to a $10, 000 fine.
The defendant will have to serve half of his prison sentence before being eligible for parole; under Texas law.
Assistant District Attorneys Amanda Bolin and Lauren Valenti prosecuted the case. Attorney Eric Ashford represented the defendant.
Testifying in court on January 10, 2018, Taku narrated how Alohaneke stalked her friend and repeatedly threatened to kill her, hours leading up to the murder.
She further stated that Epiepang was scared to return home. After calling police for help, Taku said she and Epiepang waited in a park for a few hours before returning to Evelyne's home to gather some clothing.
Taku said Alohaneke pounced on them at the door and pushed his way inside the house.
“I turned to him and asked ‘What is happening between you and Evelyne?’ Taku testified.
“Osa looked and me and said ‘Do you really want to know?’ and then he pulled out a knife.
Taku said she was screaming for help as she was being stabbed by the defendant before turning to Evelyne.
Taku gave testimony of how she cried for help through a bedroom window and observed in extreme fear as Alohaneke pursued his fiancé, stumbled on her and then attacked her with a knife, stabbing her numerous times till she stopped moving.
“When Evelyne grew quiet, Osa laid down next to her. I thought he was dead too because he turned completely white, his clothes, his skin, white like a corpse, and then I passed out,” Taku is said to have witnessed.
Jurors listened to a recording of a 911 call about two hours before the murder wherein Epiepang told police Alohaneke had repeatedly threatened to kill her she wanted him to leave her house.
A second 911 recording was played and jurors listen as a 911 operator answers and loud screams echo repeatedly in the courtroom as Epiepang is fighting for her life.
Several jurors were visibly shaken by the recording and turn their eyes to Alohaneke.
