Celebrated Edo Musician and former Executive director on entertainment matters to ex governor Adams Oshiomole of Edo State, Mr. Maleke Moye Idowu, today, February 28, 2018 dragged telecommunications giant, 9mobile to court over intellectual property theft.


The matter  was brought before the presiding judge, Federal High Court Ikoyi , Hon Justice Faji on allegations bothering on  commercial exploitation and intellectual property theft.

The plaintiff is demanding  for the payment of damages to the tune of N500million  for the unauthorised copying, theft, sale and continuous resale  of sixteen of his music tracks as ring tunes on the company's website for more than seven years.

Speaking to news men, Mr Idowu expressed grief over the immense financial loss he had suffered over the years as a result of the shameless  display of recklessness by the telecommunications giant.

He went further to clarify, that his first reaction to the misconduct exhibited by the telecommunications giant was not to instigate a law suit against them, but after several failed attempt to dialogue and reach a compromise, he had no choice but to turn to the judicial system, which is the last resort to the common man.

The representatives of 9mobile and their attorney however declined speaking with journalist, when approached in the Federal High Court premises to comment on the matter.

The case was adjourned till a later date for further hearing.
