Man Smuggles N 8 Million Into Nigeria, Using Birthday Cake

A US based Nigerian business man, Williams Dim Chukwuneye was arraigned before the chief magistrate,   sitting at Ebute Meta court, Lagos State.

The defendant is alleged to have attempted to smuggle $23,000 in cash from the United States into Nigeria by concealing it in a cake.

Mr Williams, an indigene of Anambra State has two counts of attempt to procure the commission of acts and unlawful smuggle charges brought against him.

The prosecutor , Inspector Oladele Adebayo, speaking before  the court, stated that the accused committed the offences on February 8 at No. 6, Gbolade Adebanjo St.,Ilupeju,Lagos .

Stating further, that the accused illegally concealed $ 23 , 000 ( N 8 m ) inside a birthday cake, an offence that contravenes section 406 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised ).

The defendant was however, granted bail by Chief Magistrate , Mrs . A. O . Ajibade in the sum of N 2 million , with two sureties in like sum. With sureties owning landed properties within the court's jurisdiction.

The case was thereafter adjourned till March 16, 2018 for further hearing.
