Cervical Cancer- What You Should Know-Detecting These Early Signs Can Save Your Life

According to the American Cancer Society, cervical cancer is one of the most successfully treatable cancers,if detected early.In a research made available online by Mayo clinic, most cases of cervical cancers are caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). 


HPV is a sexually transmitted virus which causes an abnormal change to the cells of the cervix, resulting to cervical cancer. Cervical cancer can be diagnosed clinically through a pap test. It can be detected at it's very early and treatable stage.

Like HIV, HPV has no cure, but can be managed and prevented from developing into cancer.
Please note that not all HPV causes cancer and it can be prevented by the use of Vaccines.

According to research, about 79 million Americans are currently infected with the Human Papilloma Virus.

Abnormal bleeding 

 It is normal for women to have their menstrual cycle at a particular time of the month,which often last between 4-7 days and can be delayed. However, abnormal bleeding is said to occur when you begin to release blood between periods, bleeding after intercourse or after a pelvic  examination.
These could be a call to visit your doctor.  Please be aware that other reasons such as prolonged stress,anti pregnancy medication,e.t.c can also result in abnormal bleeding. 
Bleeding after menopause is also a red flag that should not be ignored.

Unusually massive discharge 

Women tend to spot their underwear at different times of the month, this may be as a result of ovulation and other natural occurrences in the body. The colour, smell and quantity of these discharge can tell  the health condition of the body.
Having an unusually plenty discharge of a particular consistency and smell is a reminder that you need a doctor's visit.

Pelvic pain should not be ignored as it can be as a result of abnormal cells growing out of control in the cervix.
Frequent urination has been linked to several ailments such as diabetics,kidney disease,urinary tract infection,e.t.c however, the frequency and colour of the urine pinpoints the underlying ailment which is triggering your visit to the bathroom.

The CDC advises that woman 30 years and above should consider having a cervical examination.
And adolescents between the ages of 11-12 to take the HPV vaccines.
