Nigerians Loaded In A Truck, Travelling Through The Desert To Europe

As many Africans, including Nigerians continue to embark on the perilous journey through the Sahara desert, the need to raise awareness on the dangers of illegal migration should not be left solely for the government to tackle.

Not fewer that 10,000 Nigerians have lost their lives in the recent years, attempting to journey through the desert  to Italy and other parts of Western Europe.

Many families have been torn apart, lives destroyed, wives loosing husbands, children denied the love of a father, in a search for greener pastures.
Well, is the grass always greener on the other side?

One should not consider travelling through the Mediterranean sea to get to Europe. Do not even think about it!

It can be likened to an individual signing their death sentence and hoping they would not die.
The chances are you will not live to tell others how much you regret undertaking that journey, and you will never allow such thoughts cross your mind if given a second chance.

Yet one will wonder, why then do people continue to risk their lives, parking their bags and ''trekking to Europe''?

No one can ever answer that question, for every individual there is an answer based on their circumstances.

Families never raise alarm of their relatives who have lost their lives or are unaccounted for, since setting out to Europe via Libya and Morocco. Maybe too ashamed, or afraid to be blamed, they mourn their dead in silence.

On the other hand, the lucky few who manage to make it through, worn out but alive, finally get their foot on the European soil are celebrated by families, friends and well wishers.

Neighbours use them as a benchmark for their children at home, if Mr A was able to get to Europe by road and did not die, why can't you?

You are just a human being like Mr A, he does not have two heads.
This is where the menace of illegal migration and thoughts of embarking on this hazardous journey is born.

Parents have a role to play, in other to curb the menace of illegal migration.
