Woman Files For Divorce After Husband Gifted His Mother A Car

A Nigerian woman is currently trending online over her filing for divorce due to husband prioritizing his mother above her.

A young woman residing in Lagos, Nigeria is said to be asking the court to dissolve her marriage of 3 years, for the most flimsy reason.

Adaobi ( not real name) stated in court documents, that she started a relationship with her husband when he had nothing and they both shared a self contained room.

She went further to add that she was very supportive of her then boyfriend, now husband. At some point she took up his financial responsibility with funds from the small business which she owned.

“Things got better in 2021, God blessed us and my husband built a house , bought himself a car and we got married the same year”, she wrote in court documents.

In addition to their financial blessing, the couple found out  in December 2022 that Adaobi was with child. They were elated to begin growing their family.

However, things went south for the couple when the husband, Emeka Ibe ( not real name) bought a car, a Lexus 300 for his mother in the village and was planning to relocate her to Lagos to live with his family.

Adaobi is said to have disagreed with the idea of bringing his mother to the city to live with them. To make matters even worse, she claimed she uses Uber when going for antenatal care when her husband is not available to drive her.

She stated in court documents, “Buying me a car should be his priority, not buying a car for his aged mother in the village, that doesn’t need it”. 

Emeka went ahead to get his mother the car gift against the will of his wife.

Adaobi moved out of the house with her 7 months pregnancy, and refused to return. She went further to file for divorce.
