Three Nigerians Jailed In The UK Over £420,000.00 GBP


 

A group of UK based Nigerians specialized in identity theft have been handed a lengthy prison sentence by Portsmouth Crown Court.

Oluwadamilola Bolaji, Taofeeq Balogun,Taiwo Agusto were part of an organized crime group whose specialty was to replicate existing accounts of unsuspecting customers of phone companies, order expensive phones and iPads.

The group had reportedly obtained more than £420,000.00 GBP from their illicit operations.

The group bagged a combined jail time of 11 years. With 32-year-old Oluwadamilola of Kent to serve 6 years and 3 months, having obtained £145,000.00GBP from their deeds.

Taofeeq Balogun, 30, from Basingstoke was handed a 3-year term for his involvement in the crime, to a tune of £25,000.00 GBP.

43-year-old Agusto who gathered a proceed of £3,000GBP was given a 1 year, 9 months sentence.

According to a statement released by the Hampshire Police Department, during a search of the culprits home, in an operation tagged “operation Waterspout” investigators recovered several forged documents, passports, bank statements and bank cards.

The antics of the group came into light when an Hampshire resident filed a complaint of 4 different phone accounts being opened on his name from 14 - 19 February 2020, which he did not authorize.

EE, O2, Carphone, Vodafone contracts where taken by the group on the names of existing customers to a tune of £429,304.00 GBP
