Nogokpo : Why Nigerians Are Trooping To This Town In Thousands

Nogokpo, a town in the Volta region of Ghana where people go to find justice, revenge and answers to their life’s challenges.

If you have never heard of Nogokpo, you are not alone. Prior to writing this article, I also have never heard of the not-so-popular town in Ghana.

Nigeria famous musician, Initemi Timaya Odon, simply called Timaya has brought this town to limelight after making a post about girls visiting the town in a bid to tie him down.

His comment section was flooded with Nigerians who are privy of what goes on in Nogokpo.

Nogokpo, meaning, stay calm is a town along the ECOWAS ( Tema Aflao) high way in the Ketu South municipality of the volta region of Ghana.

The town is known for its strong stance on religion, with about 13 churches in the small town, including a Catholic Church, Presbyterian and Pentecostal churches.

A few meters from Nogokpo is a place called Ativuta. Standing there is a giant signpost with an image of Bishop Charlse Agyinasare.

The people of Nogokpo are predominantly kente weavers and producers of cassava, coconuts, vegetables and maize.

But all these are not what makes the town a tourist attraction, drawing attention from neighboring countries.

The yewe temple, also known as Torgbui Zakadza temple is where thousands of indigenes and foreigners visit annually for spiritual services.

Visitors refer to the temple as a sacred shrine where they go for spiritual consultations, to find justice and revenge, amongst other matters.

However, the spokesperson of the Nogokpo royal palace have reiterated that the Yewe is not a shrine but a temple.

One prominent feature or non-existent feature in Nogokpo is the absence of a police station and zero crime rate.

For unknown reasons, inhabitants and visitors of this town do not commit crimes even though there are no checks/control measures by government authorities.

People leave their wares outdoors and comeback to it just as they have left it.

Trees in the Nogokpo town are not cut except there are reasons for it to be done, and necessary procedures are being followed.

It is a crime to tell a lie in Nogokpo, as it is believed that anyone who lies pays with their lives.

Committing acts such as thefts, r&p£, burglary is a taboo and whoever conceives the idea risks being struck by the god of thunder.

It is said that various clerics from within Ghana, and neighboring countries; Nigeria, Togo, Benin , visits Nogokpo town to seek spiritual guidance and power.
