If You Have This In Your Kitchen Throw It Away Right Now

Yellow Plantains

Plantain is a rich source of iron and other essential nutrients needed by the body. Please note that this applies to green plantains.

Yellow (ripe) plantains is not a rich source of iron and it is not recommended for daily consumption due to its high sugar content.

Green plantain contains a high amount of Potassium which is essential for the maintenance of the cells and fluids in the body.

Green plantain is high in fiber and promotes heart health; controlling heart rate and blood pressure.

Cooked plantains are a great source of Vitamins A, B6 and C.

However, that cannot be said about the sugar-packed ripe plantains.

Ripe plantain is high in fructose ; which gives it the sweetness it’s known for. When fried, the fire used in frying them converts fructose into acidity.

The fried ripe plantain is highly acidic and potentially harmful to the human body, specifically the liver.

A majority of the calories in plantains are derived from sugar. One cup of ripe plantain contains 22 grams of sugar.

When green plantains are left over time to ripen and turn yellow, the iron content is significantly reduced. The complex carbohydrates are converted to sucrose.

Eating yellow plantain and expecting to get the same nutritional value of green plantain is unrealistic.

It is recommended to consume green plantains instead of the yellow plantains.
