Adaobi, not real name , reached out to TMO editor to narrate her ordeal in the hands of a Nigerian clergyman.
Being an only child, Adaobi was often alone or in the company of her parents. She had only few friends and wouldn’t interact much with her peers.
She was loved and pampered by her parents, who got her everything she ever asked for.
Things however went the wrong direction for the family when Adaobi’s father who was the breadwinner of the family lost his job and her mother had to fend for the family.
After years of being unemployed and able to secure a job, Adaobi’s father got an offer to become the private driver of an Auchi based clergyman. He was happy to finally be able to again work and earn a living for himself and his family.
The clergyman however gave a condition for the job, that all members of Adaobi’s family attends his church, which the family gladly obliged.
The job came with an offer of accommodation for the family, healthcare and wardrobe allowance. Adaobi’s dad was also generously rewarded each time he travelled out of State with the clergy.
Life was good once again, the family was happy. So happy that they barely remembered the years of joblessness and financial difficulties.
Six months into working as the driver, the married clergyman began to make advances at Adaobi.
She wouldn’t give into his demands and instead chose to tell her father what was going on. The revelation made the father unhappy that he had to report the clergyman to his wife.
Upon finding out what had happened, the clergy terminated the appointment of Adaobi’s dad with immediate effect.
The family was back to their days of hardship. They were thrown out of the lodge giving to them as part of the work contract terms.
They had to live inside a nearby catholic church for 2 weeks before finding an alternative accommodation.
When Adaobi saw how the family was struggling, she went to the clergyman and gave in on his demands.
In return, her father was reinstated and paid for the months he was owed.
Two weeks after being with the clergyman, she fell sick and spend days in the hospital, having monkey-like hair all over.
She couldn’t tell if it was an allergy or as a result of what the clergyman might have done to her.
Till date she still has the condition and is eagerly searching for a traditional treatment for he ordeal.
