Woman Dumps Her Husband For Being An Illiterate, After He Sponsored Her From Primary School To University

The internet has gone abuzz, following the story of a woman who filed for divorce from her husband of 20 years, on the grounds of illiteracy.

Maria Tembo, a Zambian, plead the local court to dissolve her marriage, as she is no longer interested in being married to an uneducated man, she stated that they have become incompatible as a result of the educational gap between them.

Speaking to the court, the distraught husband, Mr Vincent Tembo explained how he sponsored his wife from Grade 9 up till her university education, where she bagged a degree in teaching.
He went further to lament how distant he and Maria has become, citing that she now speaks English with a foreign accent.

According to Vincent, he married Maria in 1997, everything was going on well and they are blessed with two children, trouble however started when Maria got into the university.

When asked by the court why she wanted a divorce, Maria explained that she faces constant pressure and mockery from her friends, for being married to an illiterate.

Delivering judgement, the court however refused to grant Maria's request for a divorce, rather reprimanded her for abandoning her husband after gaining a degree in teaching, at his expenses. She was ordered to pay Mr Vincent the sum of k10,000 ($1,000).
