For The Sake Of Your Health Do Not Put These Food In The Refrigerator

We all love to keep our food and vegetables fresh, store left over food in our freezers and refrigerator for a few days. But most of us do not know, often times we are causing more harm to our body by continuously refrigerating these foods.

No doubt cold storage is necessary for many food. However, the chilly air from the refrigerator sometimes have negative effects on healthy foods.
To prevent food borne illness caused by  microorganism  such as E.coli, Salmonella, C.botullinum , food has to be stored under appropriate temperature in the fridge and freezers;  but this does not apply to all foods.

A number one ''No No'' is the Potato.

Keep your Potatoes away from the refrigerator! It is best to store them in a cool dry and dark place.
Starch contained in Potato is quickly converted into Sugar when left in the fridge, making them  gritty and having a funny sweetened taste which is unpalatable .

Onion

We must have heard or read somewhere that cutting onions in halves using the left over days after poses a health hazard. It is recommended that you buy onions in sizes usable in one cooking.
But that's not all, storing Onions is the refrigerator can get them mouldy and even sprouting.
It's best to keep onions in a resealable bag, storing them in your kitchen cupboard or drawers.

Garlic

Some call it the magic food! It's medicinal, a dash of garlic in that meal gives it a unique and pleasant flavour. But this multipurpose food will last longer and retain it's flavour if stored in a dry and ventilated container.
Like onions, Garlic sprout quickly when stored in the fridge, it is advisable to use garlic within 10 days when cloves have been broken.

Ketchup/Hot Sauce

Don't we all enjoy a dash of Ketchup on our fries? be it known that the tomato ketchup we enjoy has lots of preservatives that keeps it from going bad, some food companies uses vinegar as their choice preservatives for Ketchup and Hot Sauce.
Vinegar present in these sauce' are enough to keep them fresh under room temperature, so transfer that ketchup from the fridge to your kitchen counter now.

 Bread

Bread should be kept out of the refrigerator, although storing in the fridge may prevent the growth of mold- mucor,  but it leaves the bread dry. If you must store bread for a few days, you should freeze it. Yes, freeze it! keep in your deep freezer and toast each slice when ready to eat. You will be surprised how fresh your bread would look and taste.

Apples

Want your apples looking fresh for a week or two? keep them open and dry  on the top of your kitchen counter.

Avocados

Rich in vitamins, avocados will taste better when consumed at room temperature. When avocados are over ripe and not needed until a few days, it is okay to store in the fridge- but not for long.

Tomatoes

Storing tomatoes in the refrigerator will keep it from getting over ripe, but it  also alters the taste.
Try using tomatoes kept on your kitchen counter to that stored in the fridge, you will notice the difference.

Water Melons

Melons will loose it's antioxidant property when stored in the fridge. The flavour will deteriorate and the fresh looking green colour tends to fade.

Liquor/Wines

Store your liquor and wines on a shelves, these drinks taste better when kept at room temperature.
The higher the shelve life the better the taste.
Didn't they say wine taste better with age?
Only refrigerate wines when it will be consumed within few hours.
