In an era of social media buzz, rising to fame can come as quickly as the snap of a finger. This can be said in the case of Mr Martins Vincent Otse, who goes by the nickname Very Dark Black Man - VDM.
The 29-year-old social media activist rose to fame in 2023, calling out brands, politicians and celebrities for their wrong doings via his Tiktok account.
He has garnered more than 3 million followers across his social media accounts. Mr Vincent Otse is an advocate for social justice, freedom of speech and expression.
Known for wearing a men’s inner wear; singlets as his signature look, Martins has over the years evolved in his dress sense.
VDM came to limelight in 2023 when he called out a popular skin care brand in Nigeria, known for mixing chemicals used in skin bleaching.
Often making his videos from the confines of his very modest one room apartment in Abuja, VDM is seen as a young man living in an impoverished community.
Mr Vincent who says he is not in the race of activism for the money but as a voice of the downtrodden, does not run advertisements on his social media platform despite his huge following.
It is unknown the ratio between those who sings his praises to those who detests his guts.
VDM was born into a very humble background, a family who lived below the poverty line.
He is from Edo State, but was born and grew up in the Northern part of Nigeria. He speaks his native dialect as well as Hausa language fluently.
The activist speaks eloquently and is often very articulate in his use of English words.
Many of his followers are unaware of Mr Martins V. Otse (VDM) being a multi millionaire, recently purchasing two mansions; one in Edo State, where he has housed his parents and siblings and the other in Lagos.
Martins has two sisters, but no brothers. He is the first of the siblings.
Born into a Christian household, Martins and his family are ardent worshippers of Jesus Christ.
His mother is a religious minister and serves in the church as a prayer warrior.
As part of his new found fame, VDM has become acquainted with most Nigerian elites, including politicians, businessmen and celebrities.
Some of his famous friends includes : David Adeleke- Davido, who is one of the three most popular Nigeria musicians, Seyi Vodi; a billionaire fashion designer and entrepreneur, Police PRO , and Tunde Ednut; Nigeria’s most successful male blogger.
The fearless Mr Martins Otse continues to make a difference in the society with his wisdom and vocal honesty is not stopping any time soon.
