The Benin Traditional Council, with the approval of Oba Ewuare II, has suspended some top palace chiefs over wrong statements made at the palace of the Ooni of Ife.
A group from the Royal Palace of Benin Kingdom paid a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, HRH King Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi while promoting an event in the state.
The group led by Chief Ogbeide in a video trending on social media reverenced the Ooni of Ife and accrued him worship which is rightly designated to the Oba Of Benin Kingdom, Oba Ewuare N’ Ogidigan, the traditional ruler and leader of Benin.
In the video, the spokesperson of the group insinuated that Benin Kingdom was below Ife. Pledging loyalty to the Ooni, he claimed to have been told by his ancestors that Edo was born out of Yoruba land. By so doing, insinuating that the Ooni’s traditional stool is of greater importance than that of Benin Kingdom.
Other statements were made during the visit, which caused an uproar among Edo indigenes and made the suspension of the group paramount.
